Working in partnership with parents to provide open communication and ensure the safety of all students, I wanted to inform you of an event that has occurred recently. We received a report that there is an anonymous account on twitter that is cyberbullying some of our students. Administration immediately started interviewing students and reported the account to Twitter and the police. We ask that parents talk with their children and remind them that participating in these hateful online polls is also a form of cyberbullying. Any students that are found to have a part in creating this account or participating in the polls are not only subject to school discipline, but are subject to charges with the police department as well. Please encourage your children to report it to twitter, stop following it, and shut it down if they have made it! Providing a safe and secure learning environment is of top priority to the Salisbury School District, and we take these incidents very seriously.
Several students and parents notified us of this online harassment. We appreciate you reaching out and informing us immediately. We need to continue to work together to maintain an environment where students are free to focus on learning. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any information about this situation.
Sincerely,
Dawn Jenkins

In show of support for the 2020 Senior Class, the Salisbury R-IV Schools will be joining schools around the country and state by turning on our football field lights on Friday, April 10th, at 8:20 pm, which is 20:20 military time, and leaving them lit for 20 minutes and 20 seconds to honor the class of 2020. The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Board will also join in this support by turning on the baseball field lights during this time.

To the Students, Parents, Patrons, and Staff of the Salisbury R-IV Community,
I know this year is not ending the way any of us could have ever imagined. Today, Governor Mike Parson announced all school buildings in Missouri will be closed for the remainder of this school year. Our teachers will continue to provide resources and support for our students through the rest of the scheduled school year. The district will also continue to provide free meals to all students under 18. Today, we provided about 200 meals to students in our community. If you have not signed up, I would encourage you to do so. We’d love to provide lunch for every student. We will continue to provide services to our students through the end of our scheduled school year that ends on Friday, May, 22nd.
I want to share some things we will be working on regarding end of the year activities. There will not be a traditional Graduation on May 17th. We will be developing a plan for how and when to handle graduation. I am hopeful it will be a day later in the summer. We will also be working on plans as to how to address Prom and awards programs. We will provide information at a later date regarding the return of school property (books, Chrome books, uniforms, etc) and picking up any personal belongings you have at school. Please check your account balances on SIS. If you owe money, please pay those when you can.
As for the Class of 2020 Seniors, I am very proud of each of you and I have truly enjoyed spending the last four years watching you grow and achieve so many things in the classroom and in all your extra-curricular activities. You are a very special group! You will have memories and stories to share for years to come.
Let me know if you need anything.
Sincerely,

March 13, 2020
Salisbury R-IV Students, Parents, Guardians and Staff,
The Salisbury R-IV School District values the health and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors. I am providing an update regarding our efforts to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff and visitors in regards to the flu season which has affected our area of the state in recent weeks as well as the new COVID 19 virus known as Coronavirus. We continue to focus on the guidance supplied by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The district is closely monitoring the current situation and reviewing rapidly changing information from state health, education, and government officials regarding the Coronavirus. Coronavirus is a respiratory illness with symptoms that include shortness of breath, fever, and cough. The CDC reports symptoms can appear anywhere from two to 14 days after exposure.
As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are feeling sick. If your child is sick, please keep them home until he/she is fever-free for 24 hours without medication. We urge all families to continue the practice of maintaining healthy behaviors necessary during any cold and flu season. These include but are not limited to: Wash hands frequently with soap and water; Use alcohol-based hand cleaner if soap and water are not available; Cover nose and mouth with a sleeve or a tissue when coughing or sneezing; Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth to prevent the spread of germs; Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick; and stay home when you are sick.
We will do our best to provide you with information in as timely a manner as possible. The Salisbury R-IV School District will be on Spring Break the week of March 16th-20th. Our maintenance staff will be doing a deep cleaning and disinfecting of all classrooms and all parts of the buildings while we are on break. Classes are scheduled, as of today, to resume on March 23rd. We are emphasizing with our team the importance for flexibility as nothing is set in stone with this illness and the direction from the national and state health organizations are constantly shifting. We are in the process of reviewing plans for a variety of scenarios. Speculation could lead to misinformation so I will refrain from that at this time. We must be prepared for anything. The Chariton County Health Department and State Government officials are also providing guidance. Please keep in mind our schools not only serve students, but we are also a hub for many community activities.
To get the latest updates on the Coronavirus, please see the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html Here is more information on the Coronavirus from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS): https://health.mo.gov/living/healthcondiseases/communicable/novel-coronavirus/ Also, the DHSS has activated a statewide public hotline: 887-435-8411 for citizens or providers needing guidance regarding COVID-19. It is operated by medical professionals and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Please feel free to contact Central Office, your building administration or our school nurse with any further questions regarding the flu season and Coronavirus updates.
Sincerely,
Troy Clawson
Superintendent

Summer 2019 Facilities Improvements at Salisbury R-IV
A busy summer of facility improvements is being planned for Salisbury R-IV. The oldest parts of the JH/HS will see some major renovations to the existing footprint. The southwest addition which includes the cafeteria, JH classrooms and south gym was constructed in 1964. The original storefront window system sections will be removed from the office area, cafeteria and JH classrooms. In these areas a new framed and insulated wall assembly will be installed with new windows and masonry exterior. The 1964 boiler will be replaced with a high efficiency gas fired boiler to renew the service life of the central heating system. New HVAC units and ductwork will be installed in each classroom and the cafeteria. The new units will utilize the central boiler system for heating and a built-in air conditioner for cooling. Fresh air will also be introduced into the rooms via the new HVAC units. New exterior mounted HVAC units will be installed outside the south gym and locker rooms. The existing wall mounted fan coil units will be removed and the walls patched. The interior of the gym and locker room hallway will be updated with paint. The south gym, locker rooms, and HS cafeteria are the only areas that currently have no air conditioning. The lower exterior gym /locker room entrance wall/window system will be removed and replaced by new storefront door and window systems.
Other areas of the JH/HS being renovated include the music room and HS hallway. The existing music room will get a new ground mounted HVAC system, new windows and a new entry door. The HS hallway or northwest addition to the JH/HS was constructed in 1972. In this addition, a new high-efficiency gas fired boiler will replace the original boiler. Original window/wall assemblies in the HS wing will be removed. New framed and insulated walls with new windows and masonry exterior will be installed. New HVAC units and ductwork will be installed in each classroom to provide heating from the central boiler system and air conditioning. Each unit will also provide fresh air to the classroom space. The new windows, masonry, and HVAC systems will not only change the look of the buildings from the outside, but make the educational space more comfortable for students and staff.
After several months of discussion, site visits to other school facilities including consultations with other instructors, and multiple meetings with the Ag Advisory Committee, the Board of Education voted during the April Meeting build a new Ag/Industrial Arts Education Center. A new pre-engineered metal building that is approximately 75’ x 90’ (6,750 sq ft) will be constructed at the south end of the new HS classroom addition. The goal of the Board of Education is to provide more hands-on educational opportunities for our students. The district will have two Ag Education teachers next year and we will be providing some additional Ag Education classes along with two-hour block classes in construction/welding and woodworking. These offerings are not intended to replace Career/Tech school opportunities our students get thru MATC, but to create more hands-on education opportunities for students who do not attend the career center. Our preliminary drawings of the building include two classrooms, restrooms, wood shop and a metal shop. We will begin working with architects and engineers to develop our ideas into an educational space that will benefit the students in the districts for many years. We are in the beginning phases of designing/building the Ag/Industrial Arts Center. Construction will not begin until later in the summer or next fall.
Through careful planning and input from multiple stakeholders in the district, the long awaited renovation and improvements will become a reality. Many of the renovations planned for this summer have been needed for several years. The changes focus on lowering operating costs and improving educational space for students. The district’s financial standing is strong and through careful planning several dollars have been set aside to help fund these projects. This facility plan will be financed with those local dollars combined with a lease purchase agreement for the remaining funds. In the past, the district has successfully used lease purchase agreements to construct and improve our facilities. The districts tax rate has remained the same for the past eight (8) years. This project will not increase your taxes. Like our previous lease arrangements, the lease payments will be made within the current district’s budget. We are committed to preparing every student for success through learning and working together.
