Summer 2019 Facilities Improvements at Salisbury R-IV A busy summer of facility improvements is being planned for Salisbury R-IV. The oldest parts of the JH/HS will see some major renovations to the existing footprint. The southwest addition which includes the cafeteria, JH classrooms and south gym was constructed in 1964. The original storefront window system sections will be removed from the office area, cafeteria and JH classrooms. In these areas a new framed and insulated wall assembly will be installed with new windows and masonry exterior. The 1964 boiler will be replaced with a high efficiency gas fired boiler to renew the service life of the central heating system. New HVAC units and ductwork will be installed in each classroom and the cafeteria. The new units will utilize the central boiler system for heating and a built-in air conditioner for cooling. Fresh air will also be introduced into the rooms via the new HVAC units. New exterior mounted HVAC units will be installed outside the south gym and locker rooms. The existing wall mounted fan coil units will be removed and the walls patched. The interior of the gym and locker room hallway will be updated with paint. The south gym, locker rooms, and HS cafeteria are the only areas that currently have no air conditioning. The lower exterior gym /locker room entrance wall/window system will be removed and replaced by new storefront door and window systems. Other areas of the JH/HS being renovated include the music room and HS hallway. The existing music room will get a new ground mounted HVAC system, new windows and a new entry door. The HS hallway or northwest addition to the JH/HS was constructed in 1972. In this addition, a new high-efficiency gas fired boiler will replace the original boiler. Original window/wall assemblies in the HS wing will be removed. New framed and insulated walls with new windows and masonry exterior will be installed. New HVAC units and ductwork will be installed in each classroom to provide heating from the central boiler system and air conditioning. Each unit will also provide fresh air to the classroom space. The new windows, masonry, and HVAC systems will not only change the look of the buildings from the outside, but make the educational space more comfortable for students and staff. After several months of discussion, site visits to other school facilities including consultations with other instructors, and multiple meetings with the Ag Advisory Committee, the Board of Education voted during the April Meeting build a new Ag/Industrial Arts Education Center. A new pre-engineered metal building that is approximately 75’ x 90’ (6,750 sq ft) will be constructed at the south end of the new HS classroom addition. The goal of the Board of Education is to provide more hands-on educational opportunities for our students. The district will have two Ag Education teachers next year and we will be providing some additional Ag Education classes along with two-hour block classes in construction/welding and woodworking. These offerings are not intended to replace Career/Tech school opportunities our students get thru MATC, but to create more hands-on education opportunities for students who do not attend the career center. Our preliminary drawings of the building include two classrooms, restrooms, wood shop and a metal shop. We will begin working with architects and engineers to develop our ideas into an educational space that will benefit the students in the districts for many years. We are in the beginning phases of designing/building the Ag/Industrial Arts Center. Construction will not begin until later in the summer or next fall. Through careful planning and input from multiple stakeholders in the district, the long awaited renovation and improvements will become a reality. Many of the renovations planned for this summer have been needed for several years. The changes focus on lowering operating costs and improving educational space for students. The district’s financial standing is strong and through careful planning several dollars have been set aside to help fund these projects. This facility plan will be financed with those local dollars combined with a lease purchase agreement for the remaining funds. In the past, the district has successfully used lease purchase agreements to construct and improve our facilities. The districts tax rate has remained the same for the past eight (8) years. This project will not increase your taxes. Like our previous lease arrangements, the lease payments will be made within the current district’s budget. We are committed to preparing every student for success through learning and working together. Troy Clawson, Superintendent Salisbury R-IV School District

School today will dismiss as scheduled at 12:30 pm. A tractor hit a power line near the school on Hwy 129 that will cause traffic to be detoured. Parents picking up students from the Elementary should be able to access the school from the south and turn onto 6th Street. Traffic from the north is being detoured. Power and phones to the school will be down until repairs can be made. Sorry for the inconvenience.
